Spend a movie/art night in a secret apartement with a home cinema. The program includes a film screening followed by discussion with the participants of the art market themselves.
We will start with watching “My Masterpiece" movie - a comedy about a fraud in the art world. After being presented at the Venice Film Festival, “Masterpiece” has won the hearts of the critics and the viewers of 20 countries around the world.
The film tells a story of a long-lasting friendship between an eccentric artist Renzo Nervi and a grasping gallery owner Arturo Silva.
The audience catches the characters at the moment when their golden era has already passed - the paintings are poorly sold and the complexity of the creator makes things even worse. In order to improve the situation Arturo comes up with a witty scam - to stage the death of Renzo so that his works increase in price.
Gaston Duprat, director of My Masterpiece, is known for his curiosity to explore the artist's interaction with the outside world.
After watching the movie, we will have a discussion with the invited guests - the artists and the gallerists (the names to be announced soon).
We will talk about how this movie illustrates some models of gallerist/artist relationship, what is an artist’s identity and how it can be built and communicated, how it affects professional and commercial success of his works and who should take care of it.
